ANGER LESSON PART II, MAN’S ANGER: A BIBLICAL PERSPECTIVE (iD&IPBuny)

VALID ANGER

• Mat 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment…
• Check the cause for our anger: righteous or not?
• Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
• Exo 32:19 And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses' anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

ANGER CHARACTERISTICS

• Pro 27:4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?
• FULL BLOWN ANGER is terrible to witness and hear, needless and cruel words are said
• childish acts are at times exhibited…

COMMAND AGAINST

• Psa 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
• Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
• Ecc 7:9 Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry (to trouble; by implication to grieve, rage, be indignant ): for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
• Col 3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
• Jas 1:19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift (ready) to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

ANGER DESTROYS OUR TESTIMONY

• Jas 1:20 For the wrath of man worketh (accomplisheth) not the righteousness of God.

EXAMPLES/ CONSEQUENCES

Separates families

• Gen 27:45 Until thy brother's anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?

Murder

• Gen 49:6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret; unto their assembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger (Simeon and Levi) they slew a man, and in their selfwill they digged down a wall.
• Remember the envy of Joseph’s brothers led to their anger and later plotting

Conflict

• 1Sa 17:28 And Eliab (David’s brother probably envied him, provoked an angry suspicious, malicious attitude towards David) his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.

APPROACH TO ANGRY PEOPLE

• Gen 44:18 Then Judah came near unto him, and said, Oh my lord, let thy servant, I pray thee, speak a word in my lord's ears, and let not thine anger burn against thy servant: for thou art even as Pharaoh. (Humility)
• Pro 15:1 A soft (tender (literally or figuratively); by implication weak: - faint ) answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger (galit na ginagalit pa, ganito mga nagger na asawa).

What The Bible Says (DPryde)

Anger is overcome with its opposite—love and forgiveness

• Proverbs 15:1 – A soft answer turneth away (to return to the starting point) wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
• Colossians 3:8 – But now ye also put off (cast aside) all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth...Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering, forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all things put on charity [love] which is the bond of perfectness.

Christians are to act, not react to problems –

• 1 Corinthians 10:13 - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
• Love and forgiveness are choices we make and determine our reactions. God is as interested in our reaction to the sinful behavior of others as He is to the sin that precedes it.

APPROACH TO ANGRY PEOPLE(IPB CONT.)

• Pro 15:18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth (settle, be at peace) strife.
• Pro 19:11 The discretion of a man deferreth (makes long) his anger; and it is his glory to pass over (cross over) a transgression (kung di naman ikamamatay, palampasin na).

KINDNESS is the skin of our Christian Testimony. DPruden

• Pro 21:14 A gift in secret pacifieth (tame or subdue) anger (kulang sa pansin, bigyan pansin, paligayahin): and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

DON’T FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE (pour water, not OIL!! :B)

• Luk 15:28 And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him.
• Gπαρακαλέω parakaleō par-ak-al-eh'-o
• From G3844 and G2564; to call near, that is, invite, invoke (by imploration, hortation or consolation): - beseech, call for, (be of good) comfort, desire, (give) exhort (-ation), intreat, pray.

LEAVE THINGS WITH GOD

• Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place (deliver up) unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

THOUGHT TO PONDER: ARE WE CAUSING OTHERS TO GET ANGRY?

• Col 3:21 Fathers, provoke (stimulate) not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.

1Co 13:4 ,5 "Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil"
